Belgium’s polished diamond exports rose by 21% to $909.97 million in January, according to figures released by Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC). By volume, polished exports rose 5% to 753,860.11 carats in January, compared to the same month last year. January polished imports rose 41% to $1.06 billion by value. In terms of volumes, imports of polished grew 33% to 1.1 million carats. However, the volume of rough diamonds exported from Belgium in January fell 10% to 13.4 billion. In dollar terms, exports grew 7% to $1.0 billion. January rough imports were down 7% by volume at 12.3 billion, but in dollar terms rough imports rose 28% to $1.1 billion.
