TECHNICAL INDICATORS

With fears that the power supply problems in South Africa will have a serious effect on output, the price of platinum this week surged passed $2,000 per ounce. The metal has added over 30% this year, doubled since the start of 2006 and quadrupled since January 2002, when the PolishedPrices overall index started.

By contrast, the price of diamonds has lagged behind significantly, with the overall index currently standing less than 20% above its January 2002 start point.
