In a dramatic finish to the week, the overall polishedprices index sank to lowest level since January 2011.

The main PolishedPrices index opened 2.0% lower than the prior week on Monday at 129.7 points. The overall index is currently 10.6% lower than this time last year, and has lost 4.9% since the start of 2015.
All 0.3 carat benchmark ranges finished the week at 2015 lows in volatile trading.
Commercial 0.3 carats ended the week down 4.7%, after recording a 2015 high earlier in the week.
Mixed 0.3 carats diamonds also recorded considerable losses, dropping 5.2% over the previous week.
The poorest performance came from Fine 0.3 carats, which plunged 8.5% on the prior week.
Fine 0.5 carat stones also hit a 2015 high during the past week, but fell back to finish the week 6.0% lower than the prior week.
Commercial 0.5 carats fared no better, ending the week down 5.8%.
Mixed one carat stones were the only benchmark category in positive territory, adding 1.3%, after a poor performance during the previous week.

The definitions of our groupings are:
Fine: Goods better than I colour and VS2 and above
Commercial: K SI3 and above, excluding the Fine category, and
Mixed: The rest down to M I3
